Help, There's An Elf On My Shelf!
As she is now eleven, I secretly was relieved that our Elf days were over… until, my seven-year-old son came home from school frantic that my daughter write the Elf so he would come to our house. Apparently, his second grade friends had all been visited by their Elves and he wanted his Elf to come too. My maternal guilt for my poor neglected third child went in to overdrive.
I searched all over the house and guess what? I cannot remember where I put my Elf. I went to buy a new Elf and add to the millions the Elf On The Shelf writer is making and found the bookstore sold out! I scrambled all over town to find some sort of Elf ,any Elf that could visit our house. I was becoming desperate. Luckily, Marshall’s had something that would work. Last night, my daughter wrote him a note complete with a sprig of our Christmas tree and voila, he appeared this morning. The magic and exhaustion continues!

Tracy: It wouldn't be the holidays without some stress! All the excitement and changes in routine can be stressful for children too. Read this article for tips and techniques on how to keep your kids relaxed and happy during the holidays!
Kara: Not sure how I feel about the fact that some parents are actually using Cesar Milan's (The Dog Whisperer) theories on raising their children. I love Cesar and his simple concepts for pet owners: Be the Pack Leader, and Exercise, Discipline, Affection...but not sure it translates to raising children. I don't know, I could be wrong! I spotted this article and thought it had some good tips for caroling with children, plus you can print copies of the lyrics to your favorite holiday songs.

It Is Time For SNOW!

One of my children’s favorite books to read this time of year is Snip, Snip Snow by Nancy Poydar. This is a terrific book about a young school girl who really wants it to snow. A snow storm is supposed to arrive during the school day, but the storm is late to arrive. The girl and her classmates make paper snowflakes while they are waiting and decorate their classroom windows. In the end, the storm does arrive and the children are delighted.
On the last page of the book, there are instructions on how to make your own paper snowflakes. This is a fun book to read to your family when winter weather arrives in your town.

What Are Your Holiday Traditions?

Last year, I started a new tradition for my family. I selected a special book for each child and my husband. I wrote a note about why I selected the book and the date. I hope this new tradition will help them build their own special libraries.
Over twenty years ago, my college roommates began exchanging ornaments instead of gifts. Way back then, we did not have any ornaments of our own so we decided it would be fun (and useful) to give each other a new tree ornament each year. Twenty years later, we are still going strong!
What are some of your family traditions? We would love to hear from you!

See Up This Holiday Weekend!

Up is a special story about the adventures of a precocious, young boy scout and a very special senior citizen. I cannot wait to see it again on DVD. I know I missed some great moments the first time around.
If you have a crowd coming to your house for the holiday, you will want to pick up a copy of Up for your group to enjoy. I promise it will entertain generations of all ages (and provide a much-needed break from the football games).

Congratulations to Summer Maple Humphries who said:
"Our family has had a Thanksgiving tradition for many years simply named "The Walk." Rain, sleet, snow, or shine, we all bundle up in the early afternoon (dogs included) and work up an appetite for the evening feast. Lively conversation, blowing leaves, and laughing children... my husband and I announced my first pregnancy on the Thanksgiving walk of 2003 -- such fun!"
So many sweet memories and traditions!! Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories with us, we loved reading them!

Just Say Cheese!
This year, I was determined to not have this problem again. What did I do differently? I began using my digital camera on January 1, 2009. I just knew that one photograph would have to work if I just kept taking pictures throughout the year. I am happy to let you know that I was successful and will be using a photograph that I took on my trip to Yellowstone National Park this summer.
If you have put off taking your family photo this year, click here for some great tips. I found some good suggestions that will seem obvious, but I never seem to remember to do, such as making sure you have enough film, new batteries, or an empty memory card before you start your family photo shoot. You will also find tips from a professional who suggests not using a flash indoors but using a flash outdoors.
We would love to see your holiday photographs. If your children are dressed in CWDkids’ clothing, please post your pictures on our Facebook page. Your photos will be entered in to our monthly drawing for a $100 gift certificate.
Good luck!

Make A Thanksgiving Box!

I am planning on making my own Thanksgiving Box and having my family fill it with their special notes of what they are thankful for. I think that it will be lots of fun to read the notes during our Thanksgiving dinner and have everyone try to guess who wrote the note! This should be a fun activity to keep all ages entertained throughout dinner.
